![]() If you were going to be using your PS2 as a DVD player, you probably would like the convenience of turning on and off the machine from a remote.įinally they should have made the thing universally compatible with, at the very least, Sony TVs. Another thing that is sorely missing from the remote is the ability to turn off or reset the system. Sure, the PS2 can do slow motion, but step-by-step is really needed when you want to get that special shot from the Roller Girl unveiling in Boogie Nights.Ĭlick image to enlarge. The first is obviously a step by step function. These new features are nice and all, but there is still more that could have been done to add value to the DVD functions of the PS2. New additions to the PS2 functionality include the Shuffle command (that will randomly play tracks and titles from the disc), A-B repeat, and Program. New adopters of the system don't need to worry about this as apparently the newer systems come equipped with the latest drivers right out of the box (PS2 model number SCPH-30001R is the magic unit). If you have one of the earlier PS2s you need to use a memory card to hold the drivers, which are downloaded from a CD-ROM that the remote comes with. It also upgrades the PS2 DVD drivers to version 2.10, which fixes some compatibility problems (the two-disc Disney SE's now work flawlessly) and allows the remote to perform some new actions that weren't normally available. The remote basically takes all of the functions from the on-screen display and maps them to a wireless remote so you can operate your PS2 DVD player from almost anywhere in the room. It took them a while, but now the console has a 100% official remote, and it does the job that it needs to do even though some useful features are absent. ![]() Multiple third party peripheral makers released remote controls for the system last year, but an official remote from Sony was nowhere to be found. ![]()
